Revitalize Your Smile: Dental Crowns and Bridges at Woodbridge Hill Dental Practice
Dental crowns and bridges offer you options for replacing damaged and missing teeth. These treatments offer options for improving your smile and making your mouth healthier so that you can eat, talk and smile without any worries. At Woodbridge Hill Dental Practice, we offer both crowns and bridges to patients who want to protect and replace teeth that are weakened or missing. A crown or bridge can last for many years if you take care of it well.
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a cap that is placed onto a weakened tooth to help to protect and restore it. If a tooth is chipped, fractured or damaged, placing a crown over it helps the tooth to match the rest of your smile and prevents further problems from developing. Porcelain crowns can be made to match your smile so that they don’t stand out among your natural teeth. They can include crowns made entirely with porcelain or porcelain bonded to a precious metal, which offers a stronger option. Different people can benefit from different materials; for example, pure porcelain crowns are best if you don’t grind your teeth.

Types of Dental Crowns
There are several types of porcelain dental crown made with different materials. The best dental crown material depends on where the crown will sit and other factors. Porcelain crowns have a natural look and are usually used for front teeth. Porcelain bonded to precious metal has a precious metal base, with the porcelain applied in layers over the base. Porcelain and composite crowns are made using a composite material for a natural look, although they are also not as strong as porcelain bonded to metal. Precious metal crowns are another option, which are made from gold or palladium and don’t use any porcelain. They are best for teeth at the back of the mouth where they are less visible.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are designed to replace one or more missing teeth. They include one or more artificial teeth and are fixed into the mouth using the healthy teeth or sometimes by attaching to dental implants. A dental bridge offers an alternative to dentures, which are removable. Unlike dentures, a bridge is fixed into the mouth and you can take care of it as you do your other teeth. A bridge is created by taking an impression of your teeth either side of the missing teeth that need to be replaced. Crowns are made for those teeth and they are joined together with an artificial tooth to replace the missing one.
Dental Bridge vs Implant
Another option for replacing missing teeth is dental implants. These are a long-lasting option which involves implanting a titanium post in the jawbone. An artificial tooth is then attached to the post for a permanent tooth replacement. Dental bridges offer a more affordable alternative to implants, and the treatment also take less time. However, you might be interested in implants as an option too.
Dental Crown Costs
The cost of dental crown treatment depends on a number of factors, such as what material the crown or bridge will be made from. At Woodbridge Hill Dental Practice, the cost for private treatment for crowns is between £410 and £580, with partial crowns from £300. With our dental plans, you can save money on crowns too. If you have our Care Plan, you will pay only the lab bill for crowns, which costs from £29 for partial crowns and from £38 for full crowns.
How Dental Crowns Are Made
To fit a dental crown, the tooth will first be prepared. This is to make sure that it is the right shape to hold the crown. The outer surface of the tooth is removed so that the core remains and a crown can be fitted over the top. The crown will be as thick as the tooth that has been removed. An impression of the tooth is then sent to the dental lab so that a crown can be made that fits the tooth. The color of the crown will also be matched to your existing teeth, and a temporary crown will be fitted until the permanent crown is ready.
Why You Should Replace Missing Teeth
Replacing missing teeth is both practical and can improve the look of your smile. It can make it easier to eat and talk again, plus restore your smile. A dental bridge uses crowns to help replace your teeth in an easy and effective way.
